Alexis Stanley is the Founder and Executive Director of Better Baller Athletics. As a native New Yorker Alexis has always had an immense love for sports. Since her early childhood years Alexis participated in a variety of sports including basketball and track &field. Upon graduating from college Alexis went on to work for numerous sports organizations such as the Brooklyn Nets, the National Basketball Association, and the MLB to name a few. Her family’s legacy in sports helped to culminate this love into a spirit of giving back as well. While serving as a volunteer for cousins Champ and Boss Bailey’s Bailey Brothers Foundation Alexis was given an opportunity to interact with the local community on a multitude programs. It wasn’t until working in these settings Alexis realized that many of the urban youth she encountered were lacking development and not maximizing their full academic and athletic potential. After coming together with partners Melvin Robinson and Cynthia Patterson. Better Baller Athletics was born. Alexis currently splits her time between New York and Washington DC. She is also a recent Masters of Public Policy graduate and Syracuse University alum. Additionally she is proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
Associate Executive Director
Melvin Robinson is the Co-Founder and Associate Executive Director of Better Baller Athletics. Deeply rooted in sports, Melvin began playing basketball and honing his skills at the tender age of 13. He went on to play for nationally acclaimed coach Ron Naclerio at Benjamin Cardozo High School in New York and earned his stripes as one of the top high school ballers coming out of New York City. His hard work paid off in the form of a full four year scholarship to Division-1 school St. Peter’s College (Jersey City, NJ). While at St. Peter’s Melvin not only served as team captain but also earned MAAC all-conference player of the week both his junior and senior year. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management. He continued his stint in sports playing professionally in China, France, and Mexico. Melvin later crossed over to the business side of sports taking a position in the NJ Nets front office. He later began fostering relationships with many youth athletes as he went on to coach several AAU teams throughout the NY/NJ area. With solidifying experiences from the coaching, playing and business side of basketball Melvin understands there is a great need for programs such as Better Baller Athletics in the urban communities. Melvin currently lives and works full-time as a Teacher in New York City.
